PLAYLIST TRADITIONS FEBRUARY 24, 2008

Any comments, queries, requests, and ideas please e mail wfdutraditions@yahoo.com

If you will allow me a personal comment---you will note a country/western set of music today---besides growing up with it myself I wanted to dedicate it to a mainstay of WFDU who has not been with us for a while now and I hope he enjoyed hearing it---that would be---if you are a listener wish him well--Paul Bain.

Story songs always move me and how can we not start that with any other person than Harry Chapin.

Another item--- David Bennett Cohen. If you were tune in you heard my comment---an amazing CD with some great piano licks---and wonderful added lyrics to traditional material.

PLAYLIST TRADITIONS FEBRUARY 17, 2008

Any comments, queries, or reqests please e mail wfdutraditions@yahoo.com

The final program in our annual fund raising effort and co-hosted with Ron Olesko. Our thanks for your generous support of the program and the station. A delight to have been able to talk with many of you on the phone. Some of you supported the program religiously for ever so many years---for that our humble thanks and all the new people--thanks , as well, and hoping you will also be long time supporters of the program. Your input will also, as always, be of great help in programming the program.

A lot of talk and little music due to the fund-raising campaign---next week back to what the program is all about---music and artists to listen to and to learn about.

PLAYLIST SUNDAY SIMCHA FEBRUARY 17, 2008

Any comments, queries, requests and general kvetching please e mail sundaysimcha@yahoo.com

This was the final fund-raising broadcast for this year and my thanks to all who have so well supported the program. We came up to the anticipated goal---namely a proportional amount for a 1 hour program to any given hour of a 3 or 4 hour program. There were many who did not participate and they can still do that by simply sending an e mail with a mailing address and a pledge to the e mail address at the top. For those who are part of KEEPING YIDDISHKEIT ON THE AIR--WFDU-----I thank you, the station thanks you, and also thank yourselves doing something to keep radio programming alive and well and not part of the cookie-cutter corporated culture---and allowing me that alliteration .

Any Comments, Queries, Requests--Kvetching(?) e mail sundaysimcha@yahoo.com

Next week is the final Sunday of the very short fundraising effort at WFDU. My thanks to all who have pledged to Sunday Simcha---it means a lot. To both you and myself. We have to maintain a certain proportion in relation to the other programs on the station to show that the program is wanted and tuned in. Our much needed version of "Arbitron" I guess.

In any case many thanks to you who have helped to KEEPING YIDDISHKEIT ON THE AIR---WFDU.

With your generous support you have brought the program almost within reach of the goal of $1500.00 (a small sum compared to other non-0commercial stations out there). The bottom line is---just 500.00 more will be needed the Sunday of February 17---the final Sunday and then its back to Yiddishkeit as usual.

You can call on Sunday or you can e mail the address at the top and just give me your name and mailing address for the pledge packet.

One last mention of my thanks and hopes that the smaller pledgers will participate this week---a few have carried the load and hopefully others will back them up with small pledges.

ERICA WHEELER

A note of thanks to all of you who have pledged to the program on 2/3--it is a pledge to keep us where we are and where you are each Sunday. Hopefully, many more of you will be chiming in during the next 2 weeks.

You can also make a pledge by e mail wfdutraditions@yahoo.com and it shall be entered in the station's log.

Yesterday's program was jointly hosted by Ron Olesko and myself as it will be until the fund raiser ends---in a brief 2 more weeks. The SINGLE station that runs ONLY 1 SHORT fundraiser each year in this area.

Since yesterday's program was a co-hosted one how about a little contest---no pledge required---see if you can pick who picked which artist or songs played ---if you get 80% you will rcvd a randomly selected CD from my own collection.
Since there were 23 pieces played that means you have to get 20 out of 23 correct. First 3 correct responses win the CDs

PLAYLIST FOR FEBRUARY 3 & FUNDRAISING--AND A NEW VIDEO TO ENJOY

The video on the right is some great footage of the lady with the piercing eyes and the golden voice. She is now appearing at Feinstein's in NYC--the cover is about $125.00 per person--a lot higher than those good old days that Tom Paxton sings about on his new CD=---Comedians and Angels . Of course, here you get a few moments of vintage Judy Collins free.

As to the playlist for this week-end and, perhaps, for the next week or so---I shall forego it since we shall be in the studio with my volunteers to answer you pledge calls. You may, however, eliminate a lot of the sales pitching by pledging via e mail to me at sundaysimcha@yahoo.com . Just make sure that you include a mailing address so that we can send you the pledge packet---AND if you pledge 36.00 or more we can send you a CD of your choice---the list is on the WFDU website. Just scroll down to the section for SUNDAY SIMCHA---though you may choose from any category.

A friendly reminder that WFDU is the only station--to my knowledge--that comes to the listeners only one time for only 3 weeks for the needed fundrasing effort to maintain the programming and the facility. Obviously programs that cannot show their importance to the listenership---via pledging--have to be replaced. So---the bumper sticker slogan below is pertinent.

$36.00 represents "double chai"--as you are aware--for every additional $18.00 (chai) another CD will be added to your package---though those have to come from the SUNDAY SIMCHA list.

A late addition not on the web-site are some CDs from Margot Leverett and The Klezmer Mtn. Boys.

So---for your bumper sticker slogan :

KEEPING YIDDISHKEIT ON THE AIR---WFDU
