PLAYLIST TRADITIONS FEBRUARY 22, 2009

Once again my ---and Ron's-- great thanks for the support you have shown the program and the artists we present---old and new. Thanks also for all the kind words today about today's program and the wonderful conversation with Tom Paxton---do follow my suggestion about visiting his website and offering kind thoughts for his wife.

One more item---a correction. Buskin and Batteau join me on March 22 for some live music in the studio and James O'Malley is on with me for that on March 8. I mentioned it correctly but it was incorrect on the Program Notes web page---now corrected.

A few shots of the faces to put with some voices:

PLAYLIST SUNDAY SIMCHA FEBRUARY 22, 2009

We start with great thanks to those of you who pledged to keep "Yiddishkeit" on the air and also for the lovely notes I have rcvd. Seems we may have to make this the Allan Sherman Corner---though Mickey Katz is a contender--oich---he could'a bin a contendah.

Some of you wrote love notes and I know that in these hard economic times it may well be hard to donate so your kind words are certainly welcome. Mike Burstyn, in his interesting interview, made a good point--Lansky was a mobster but he cared for the Jewish People and Madoff just bilked them and others.

If you have any requests just e mail them to sundaysimcha@yahooo.com and if you know any artists that would want to be played on the program have them contact me.

PLAYLIST TRADITIONS FEBRUARY 8, 2009

Once again myriad thanks to all of you who have supported the program during our annual fund-raising efforts. Thanks also to the first time pledgers---and I thank Tom who I met while joining my dear friend Jerry Treacy. Gratitude, of course, to all our regular listeners who have so generously supported our humble efforts over all these years---as an aside I offer my thanks for the great lead-in Rich Sibello offers us from his program and who I have the pleasure, every other week, of sitting in on for a few minutes for some banter and he with me. Rich seems to own every recording known to mankind and even some that were first scratched onto cave walls and then hummed---you know we should have a picture of Rich as we do of the artists we feature on Traditions:

And since we are on WFDU personalities why not a picture of Jerry Treacy who I had the pleasure of joining on his program this past Saturday and where --if you were listening--you heard my touching tale of Jerry's caring and sensitive side aside from his knowledge of Americana Music.

Last but certainly not least compliments to my co-host Ron Olesko who started TRADITIONS way back in the cave writing days of 1980 and has allowed it to evolve into these days of new media.

Thanks to you, our listeners, we shall be able to keep up what you have come to expect from WFDU and from us---an eclectic mix that can include Blues, Bluegrass, Folk---and let us not forget the ever popular (to me) "story songs" and as always---"...the thrills of the hills, the best in the west, and the tops in pops".

Now a few pics to put a face with the voice for this week:

PLAYLIST TRADITIONS FEBRUARY 1, 2009

Both Ron Olesko and I were in attendance and alternated our hosting duties while we asked for your support in the annual WFDU fund-drive. The drive lasts for only 3 short weeks---not even close to the amount of time other non-commercial stations spend in fund drives yearly. I am certain that many of you will also agree that WFDU---and WFDU alone---has a personal relationship with the listeners. As I always say on the SUNDAY SIMCHA program--"..the eclectic weekend sound of WFDU"---which is accurate given the diversity of programming---Yiddish, Beatles, Americana, Doo Wop, Folk, etc;

Our sincere thanks for the support many of you showed us yesterday---actually "some" would a better word. Hopefully we will hear from more of you next week so that we can continued doing what we love and you can keep getting something I believe you treasure on the air---music with commentary and humor and not just music with the title scrolling along the bottom of your car radio dial.

If you would like to pledge via the web you can do this by going to http://www.wfdu.fm/ and following the prompts---you can also do it by writing to me at wfdutraditions@yahoo.com and just give me your name, address, amount and we will send you an envelope so you can fulfill your pledge.

Now a few faces to go with the voices you heard today:

PLAYLIST SUNDAY SIMCHA FEBRUARY 1, 2009

A brief update since there will no posted playlists for this and the next 2 Sundays due to the Fundraising efforts and, you must realize, there are only 2 hands available. One hand is on the CD machines and the other is anticipating your calls and is hovering over the telephone.

I have a great suggestion. Why not pledge via e-mail to sundaysimcha@yahoo.com It will make life simpler for us all---just send me your name, address, amount, and e mail address (in case of a glitch---no other reason). The station will mail you an envelope for your generosity---and that envelope will mean a lot to you and me---it will help to keep YIDDISHKEIT on the air.

You may also mail any requests for music to that address with no obligation---although----well know the rest.

Now, as far as TRADITIONS is concerned you can do the same as above but just use this address: wfdutraditions@yahoo.com Everything else applies.

Finally, my greatest thanks to the people who called in to pledge today---mille grazie (for the Italian Jews) and Viel Danke for everyone else. I promise to honor the request for Sara Jackman next Sunday.

Do you feel that a picture of me might help? After all we want to be mespucha---and for Traditions listeners just part of the wonderful extended family that is holding on to the values we grew up with and, damn it, we won't change.
